Forevermore

Forevermore is an exhibition and publication by Wilhelm Philipp and Matthew Peter Karak, released in conjunction with the Museum of Australian Photography (formally Monash Gallery of Art).

The work captures quiet landscapes of the Wheelers Hill area, detailing its natural beauty throughout the years of 2019-2022. Forevermore acts as a love letter to Karak's lifelong home area of 26 years. These works capture a memory of his adolescence and earl adulthood and are a dedication to the Wheelers Hill community past. present and future. The exhibition features 16 framed images from the series.

Forevermore exhibited at the MAPh Atrium from 18 November 2022 - 16 January 2023 and is currently being exhibited at the Monash Civic Centre after opening on 23 January 2023. It is the first physical exhibition to be held at the building.

Nothing Without You

Nothing Without You is a photographic exploration detailing the bonds and relationships between life and death. In 2017, Wilhelm lost his grandfather, a death that impacted him deeply. Feeling lost he looked to his work to try and find answers or at least a sense of direction in life. Nothing Without You was that answer.

From 2017-2019 Wilhelm sought out subjects that shared bonds with both life and death. From priests and their dedication to God, a deceased entity that gives their life meaning and purpose to those they preach to. To a funeral celebrant, who celebrates the life of those no longer with us with their loved ones. To an artist using the bones of a deceased animal to create a work of art and of course my family. The journey of speaking with and photographing these subjects brought new meaning and joy to my own life. A body of work born from the passing of his grandfather, breathed life into his photography.

'Nothing Without You' was self-published in 2019 and exhibited at Brick + Mortar Supply.
